New Pogy Boat Purse-Sein Regulations
An email was received by Past MSBA President Chuck Casella following up on the
Purse-Sein Regulations. Late last year and early this year, a letter writing campaign helped to
get to this position, so kudos to everyone that wrote letters, they DO work!

Here are the new pogy boat purse-sein regulations:

To summarize, Chuck was able to get the Wollaston Beach Prohibited area doubled in size.
It now runs from the exposed rocks off of Squantum Neck straight down to Black Creek /
Merrymount. It is designated as Area 'I' - Quincy Bay. There is no purse seining allowed in this
designated area.

There was also acceptance of creating another Prohibited area in Winthrop Harbor/Crystal
Cove (no purse seining allowed), shown as Area 'J' on the map. Next to Area 'J' is a new
Restricted Area 'K'. This restricted area has two purse seining restrictions:
       1. only hand-hawled nets can be used, no longer than 400'
       2. purse seining cannot be conducted after 8:00 AM.

These are improvements over last year as they stand alone but Chuck was also able to get the
following:

Purse seining for pogies is prohibited in Boston Harbor and Salem Harbor on Friday,
Saturday and Sunday.
