Well, yet another awards banquet is behind us. If I could give each and every person who attended the banquet a great big hug, I would. Thanks to your generosity, we came out in the black!! In spite of the lower turnout ( 95 reserved, 78 attended) we actually made $102. Congratulations to all of you. From what I have heard, this is the first time the banquet came out in the black. (This does not include the price of the trophies. That is a normal expense to the club as part of your membership and therefore is not included in the banquet numbers.) That, my friends, is thanks to all who attended. I certainly hope you all enjoyed the different format this year as much as I did. The raffle table started out small due to limited funds but thanks to Stripa Tackle, BigFish Bait Co, Bill and Jules Fishing Charters, Van Christie, Tom Conti, Sally Tomasello, Bob Baranek, Bill Prodouz, George Costello and anyone else who donated to the table without me knowing about it. It’s because of these kinds of members that this club continues on as it does. Special thanks to our friends at the Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA) and On the Water magazine for their generous donations as well. Thanks also to those who helped set up the hall and break it down afterwards and especially Tom Conti for setting up the raffle table and spending his evening selling the tickets. No wonder he won the Al Proietti Award this year!! Thanks also to Van Christie for spending his evening selling tickets. You two guys are awesome. I would especially like to commend our Annual Derby Chair Pam Kearney for doing an awesome job in her first year as chair. It’s a very consuming job and she did it well. It’s definitely a learning experience and she was a great student. Huge thanks to our Webmaster and club photographer Jim Dow for spending his evening photographing the entire event. By the time I left the hall at 11pm and got back to Hyannis at midnight, the pictures were already posted on the website!! Jim, you are unbelievable!!! Lastly, I want to thank Patrick for his guidance and support. It won’t be long before the gear comes out and gets “spruced up” for the first bite. I hope every member weighs in a fish next year. Let’s see some new names on those trophies. For any new members who aren’t sure about the annual derby, check out the rules on the website and feel free to contact Pam, whose e-mail is on the back of the Spray and also on the website. Again, thanks to each and every one of you.
Don’t forget, you can’t catch fish with a dry line!!
