My Past MSBA Year In Review
Submitted by Jim Dow, MSBA Webmaster
My past year in the MSBA was a year filled with fun, learning and experiences that I have never had before. It was also
filled with friends, those that I have known for years as well as new friends that I am happy to say will be so for many years
to come.

I had the great opportunity to fish in several tournaments representing the finest fishing club in New England and learned a
lot from what appears to be some of the best and most dedicated anglers around. Those experiences will help me to land
the big ones for many future outings.

Aside from my tasks with the website, taking part in membership drives and working on the annual EXPO committee not
only allowed me to see a side of the club that many members don’t get to see, it showed me the true dedication and
personal time that several members put in to make this club a great one. I realize that the membership is what makes the
club what it is, but I can’t say enough that it is the members of the committees and boards within this club that spend
countless and often thankless hours of their own time to keep things running as smoothly as they do.

There are many MSBA events and happenings that make this a year-round club, not just a seasonal group. Aside from the
always entertaining monthly meetings, the Annual Banquet, the several fishing tournaments from Maine to Rhode Island,
our own annual derby, the club outing and cook-out and the mid-summer “Plug Night”, I was recently a part of what I feel is
one of the best parts of the MSBA. The annual December meeting consists of a pot-luck dinner and toy drive for the
Children’s Hospital of Boston. I was fortunate enough to have been the person to deliver the toys collected after the
meeting and it was one of the most rewarding and warm feelings that I have ever experienced. Seeing the faces of the
people that work at the hospital as well as visitors as I unloaded three and a half cart loads of toys donated by MSBA
members and hearing the praises of these people, I knew that the MSBA truly has a special place in the community.

If you are not a member of this fine club, you should come to a meeting and see what things go on and decide for yourself,
I’m sure you will want to join us. If you are a member already and have not had the opportunity to work on a committee, you
should speak to any of the committee chairs and become a part of one. You can help to keep this club on the same track
that has made it the largest and oldest fishing club in New England and helped it to stay such a strong presence in the
community for over 57-years.

Looking forward to many years of friends, fishing and good times….
