The fishing community has lost an icon today and the MSBA has lost a friend. It is with deepest regret that we have to convey the news that Steve Shiraka passed away at about 3:00 o'clock this morning from cardiac arrest.
Steve was a tremendous angler, a great person and first and foremost, a family man. He will be deeply missed by all that he touched.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Steve's family as well his online family at striped-bass.com and all of the countless people Steve has touched at some point and made them better for it.
The wake will be Friday November 20th between 4 and 8 p.m. at the Chapman Cole and Gleason Funeral Home 74 Algonquin Ave. (Route 151) Mashpee (opposite Dino's Sports bar and Andy's Market) click here for directions
Check out www.striped-bass.com for what I'm sure will turn into countless posts, stories and memories of Steve on their message board.
I assume that On the Water magazine will have a fitting tribute for one of their own.
Please keep Steve's family in your thoughts and prayers.
If you have any pictures or stories of Steve that you would like to share, email them to me and I will post them on this site.
Steve will never be forgotten...
