STRIPER SWIPER REPORT (April 6, 2008)

On Saturday morning April 5th the Striper Swipers met up with Town of Weymouth officials, MSBA seniors
and lots of kids and adults from all over to help with the Herring Run Clean - Up! This was a great chance to
show our juniors that getting involved in worthwhile community activities has it's rewards. It also taught our
juniors that MSBA is not just a fishing club. The Striper Swipers got to see what the Weymouth herring run
is, where it is and why cleaning it is so important.
They worked hard and got real dirty in cold, damp conditions and not one complaint!!
This is clearly a testament to their parents. We got two new kids to sign up as members.

After cleaning the herring run we went fishing of course. Mike Jones and and David Davis along with
their fathers went with me to Whitman's Pond and tried fishing for trout and bass with grub powerbait
and earthworms. We got "skunked"! However we didn't give up. Mike Jones senior called his father,
Grampy, and got a fishing report that a creek near Wompatuck State park was producing Brook trout.
So off we went. The boys and their fathers caught a few trout!! That made the day. The fish hit on a
tobacco fly/spinner combo and on a Pin's Minnow!!
The next Striper Swiper meeting will be on Saturday, May 3rd at 9a.m. at Caddy Memorial Park
across the street from Wollaston beach. This is going to be part of a beach clean up organized by
the City of Quincy's " Cleaner Greener" program.
Again we are getting MSBA involved in the community. We will help with the beach clean up, then we will fish
Black's Creek on a dropping tide for schoolie bass with shads and casting floats with worms. A Striper Swiper
cookout will follow run by me for the kids and their parents as a thank you for helping! Striper Swipers need only
bring a parent and a 6 to 8 foot spinning combo, and maybe some Purell to clean their hands before eating.
No matter what, rain or shine, the Striper Swipers will meet on that day. If we have the timing wrong with the
