STRIPER SWIPER REPORT - JULY 2007 by Bob Pizzi Hello MSBA STRIPER SWIPERS and fellow members of MSBA! It’s been a busy few months for the Striper Swipers. Memorial Day we had an outing at Web State Park. Just about 20 juniors and adults showed up for fishing and a cookout. We have some beautiful pictures in this issue of the Spray as well as on our web site. The Fore River Bait and Tackle donated bait and tackle to the Striper Swipers… Thanks Rick! Everyone had a great time. The June 9th kids meeting was a washout due to bad weather. The June 23rd meeting had 4 Striper Swipers show up. We went to Squaw Rock in Squantum to learn about fishing dropping tides over sandbars. We also fished in a park at Marina Bay at an estuary near the mouth of the Neponset River. No fish however. Nobody showed up for the July 7th meeting. Perhaps vacations got in the way. But I stopped by The Sportsman’s Den in Quincy where Ron Hidalgo taught me how to rig and use casting floats, as we were going to Black’s Creek in Wollaston to learn how to float sea worms on dropping tides, a technique I learned from past President Bob Baranek. Maybe the next time we meet and the tide is dropping we’ll go there. The next meeting is July 28th. I’ll be teaching the Striper Swipers about “structure”. We will be fishing Nut Island in Hough’s Neck Quincy. There is an 11am high .We meet at 8am, therefore we will be fishing an incoming tide. So far this year Nut Island has produced Tautog, Blues and Stripers. However there have not been lots of any of these fish on a consistent basis. This is a great spot for learning about structure as Nut Island has rock formations, mussel beds, a jetty and of course a pier. It also has moving water, especially on the incoming tide. There will be a cookout after the meeting. In order for the rest of the meetings to be a success I need some Pros to “Step Up”. Please, all you Charter guys and Shore Fishing Guides and Terminal Tackle manufacturers call me and sponsor a Trip where we can get these Striper Swipers a fish!!! We have August 11th and the 25th as well as September 15th open for dates. So far nobody from the membership has helped either this year or last year with taking the Striper Swipers fishing in their favorite “honey holes”! I have not got one call from our so called pros about how they can help the kids. Doug Ferzoco has shown up to help as he always does. Fore River and the Sportsman’s Den have been most helpful as usual, but what about the rest of our 400 members who have years of experience and wisdom? If the dates left open aren’t good for you pros making money off fishing pick a date yourself and let me know, I’ll get the word out… Please and Thank you! HOME |
