Plum Island Surfcaster"s Invitational

MSBA won the 18th Annual Plum Island Surfcaster"s Invitational Fishing Tournament held on May 25th.
Everyone met in the Airport parking lot at 11:00 pm saturday night to register and tell tall tales. At midnight
the contest began. The fishing was slow this year. The water was cold and the area did not seem to hold as
many fish as it did at this time  in 2008. At about 3:00 am we were treated to a great light show as one heck
of a thunder storm roared through. My group took shelter in our trucks. Fortunately Tim Brooks and Ron
McKee decided not to wade out onto Joppas Flats just before the storm hit.

After the contest ended at 9:00 am the Plum Island Surfcaster ladies gave us a great breakfast. Along with
winning First Place we also won the High Individual award. Point scorers for MSBA were Charlie Murphy,
Leland Perry, and Jim Christopoulos. This tourney is a great way to kick off the year, and MSBA usually
does very well each year. If this sounds like fun to you, reserve the sunday before Memorial Day 2010, and
join us.

Tri-State Tournament Cape Cod Leg

The Cape Cod Leg of the Tri-State Tourney took place on May 29th. 30th and 31st. and MSBA teams took
first and second place. The A Team pulled out the win over the B Team thanks to some big fish caught by
Leland Perry,[four multi point fish} and Carl DiRocco,[a 39 inch monster that took the largest fish prize]. Pat
Paquette,[three multi point fish], Ron Paquette and George Costello gave the B Team an early lead with
multi point fish but it didn't hold up. Mike Toole of Plum Island Surfcasters just edged out Pat Parquette for
the High Indivual Award and Leland Perry came in third. Plum Island Surfcasters came in third overall. Pat
Parquette won the Group Leader Award.

It was an exciting contest decided by just a couple of points. The groups that fished the south beaches
didn't find many fish, but the groups that fished the north shore beaches and harbors did much better. Pat
and Ron Paquette continued to do very well on this leg and Carl DiRocco is making  a habit of catching the
biggest fish.

On Saturday, at noon Wendy Bowles exceeded her previous excellent efforts, by putting on a fantistic meal
for all of the tourney participants and their families. She served barbecue chicken, hot dogs, potato salad,
chips and soda. Dawn and Pam provided dessert. Wendy was assisted by her daughters Diane and Elena
and her 92 year young mother Mary. She also provided us with a box lunch that this reporter found to be a
life saver when he got the "hungry horrors" at 5:00 am saturday morning.

Everyone had a great time, and I hope that the  Maine Leg is just as much fun. Call the Beau Rivage early to
make your reservations. Call me if you have any questions.
